She is playing a pregnant women based on a novel by William Gay. The movie, set in 1952, follows the story of E.F. Bloodworth, a man who returns home after 20 years of roaming to find a faded wife and three bitter sons. The old man finds his only warm welcome from his grandson, Fleming, who rejects the bitterness after learning about love through a beautiful woman, Raven Lee.
