New Life For My Name Is Earl

The canceled comedy “My Name Is Earl” may not be dead after all, thanks (possibly) to TBS.

The cable channel and 20th Century Fox TV, which produces the series, have started talks on reviving the show, The Hollywood Reporter says. They’re negotiating a 13-episode pickup for the show, which ran for four seasons on NBC and was one of the more notable cancellations at last month’s upfronts.

Rumors that another network would pick up the show hadn’t gone anywhere until now. Such a move would make sense for TBS, which already produces several original comedies and runs repeats of “Earl” on Monday nights. The show goes into daily syndication on TBS in the fall.
Talks between TBS and 20th Century Fox are still in the early phases, and there are a number of issues to work out. Topping the list is money: TBS would save some cash by producing a 13-episode season as opposed to the usual 22 or 24 episodes on a broadcast network, but some other cuts might be necessary as well.

Additionally, while the studio still has the cast — Jason Lee, Ethan Suplee, Jaime Pressly, Nadine Velazquez and Eddie Steeples — under a hold, according to the HR, their deals would likely have to be renegotiated if the show moves to cable.
