Rihanna has said it was ‘therapeutic’ to talk about her experiences on her new tracks.

The 21-year-old beauty’s new album Rated R is her first since her assault ordeal with ex-boyfriend Chris Brown.

She admitted that it wasn’t in her original plan to use her experiences as material for her new songs.

Rihanna was asked by Fearne Cotton on BBC Radio One if it was important for her to channel what she has been through into her music.

She said: “Actually, at first I didn’t want to take that route. I wanted to make an album that didn’t even talk about love at all. But going into the studio, it kind of was my peace and it was my place to vent.

“And it was kind of therapeutic to talk about it and work with writers and producers and to get my story across.”
