The Pre-Show

Selena Gomez hosted the pre-show for the MTV Video Music Awards. She interviewed her boyfriend Justin Bieber but was agitated at times as he kept touching her.

Awards announced during the black carpet pre-show are:

Best Art Direction | Adele “Rolling in the Deep”
Best Editing | Adele “Rolling in the Deep”
Best Cinematography | Adele “Rolling in the Deep”
Best Choreography | Beyoncé “Run the World (Girls)”
Best Special Effects | Katy Perry f/ Kanye West “E.T.”

Cobra Starship also performed during the pre-show with “Make Me Feel Good.”

And the biggest announcement made during the pre-show: Beyoncé debuted an adorable little baby bump.

The Show

This may come as a shock to some of you but I’m not – I repeat NOT – a fan of Lady Gaga. So much that I hadn’t heard she had an alter ego until the opening of the VMA’s. An alter ego…really? She’s not wild and crazy enough on her own that she needs an alter ego? I would have to say that I’m not impressed with her alter ego, either. Brian May joins Gaga during the performance.

Kanye seemed a little shy at the mic. Katy added a touch of fun to her speech by giving permission to Kanye to interrupt her speech, a hint at the Taylor Swift incident from a while back.

Pitbull and Ne-Yo perform.

Adele performs. I yawned. She’s not that entertaining. Great voice but not much of a stage presence.

Best Male Video | Justin Bieber “U Smile”

Chris Brown performs. Or more accurately, lip syncs a handful of songs. And goes airborne.
