Hayden Panettiere has said that she was happy to see Amanda Knox receive a second chance at life after being found not guilty of the 2007 murder of Meredith Kercher.
The actress, who played Knox in the TV movie Amanda Knox: Murder on Trial in Italy, said in a new interview with Parade that she would not change her portrayal of Knox despite the recent verdict.
Panettiere explained: “I think people got upset at the idea of a movie being done and coming out because they expected it to come to a conclusion. Like all of a sudden, they would watch the film and understand what was going on, whether she was guilty or not guilty.
“Instead it was just a story that was for the most part very fact-driven of what had happened up to that point when she went to jail. It’s such a complicated case and I don’t think anyone will know what happened.”
Panettiere went on to say that her close connection to the story meant that she felt a personal stake in Knox’s future, adding: “It’s hard for me in a way, having walked a mile in her shoes, to not be excited and happy to see a young girl get a second chance at life. I hope she makes the best of it.”
