Wow, it has been five solid months since we’ve heard any significant news on Amy Heckerling’s newest film “Vamps,” which stars Alicia Silverstone and Krysten Ritter  as two beautiful vampire BFFs named Goody and Stacy who live in the Big Apple. Fortunately, our patient waiting has paid off with a whole slew of new casting news.

It’s by now old news that Sigourney Weaver joined the cast as vampire queen, Ciccerus, and Todd Barry has signed on board to play her assistant, Ivan. Somehow we doubt he is there to play either Goody or Stacy’s love interests, but will more likely lend his comedic background to add some humor to the already “Clueless”-in-tone film.

Alicia Silverstone sent a recorded phone message to more than 1,000 employees of Brookhaven National Laboratory Wednesday morning, urging them to reject working on a NASA-funded project that would administer potentially lethal doses of gamma radiation to up to 30 squirrel monkeys.

Calling on behalf of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), Silverstone said, “I’m sure that you were as disturbed as I was to learn that Brookhaven is considering blasting monkeys with radiation in a really cruel project funded by NASA.”

In her latest blog posting, the eco-friendly celebrity vegan says that she likes to use “washable pads or Lunapads.”

So, what are they? “They are these little fabric pads that you snap into little liners,” she writes.

How do they feel? “Yes, it feels slightly like wearing a diaper, but let’s face it… Wearing regular pads do too.”

And how do they work? “What I do is use my cloth pads, and then let them soak in the sink, and then throw them in the wash. It’s super easy.”

That’s totally a baby bump under Alicia Silverstone’s shirt! Silverstone, 33, was spotted at the airport over the weekend, and while she seems to be making a game effort at misdriection with her baggy top, there’s just no hiding this bump. Coupled with the fact that the Clueless star recently dished about her eagerness to become a mom, and that she’s been married to husband Christopher Jarecki for five years now, I’d expect an announcement soon.

Sigourney Weaver will join the previously announced Alicia Silverstone and Krysten Ritter in Vamps, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Amy Heckerling has written the screenplay and will direct the movie, which is scheduled to start filming in late April.

In Vamps, Silverstone and Ritter will play two female vampires who are living it up in Manhattan until love enters the picture. Each then has to make a choice that will jeopardize her immortality. Weaver will play Ciccerus, the bloodthirsty vampire who turned the two into creatures of the night.

This fine Manhattan Theatre Club production, superbly directed by Daniel Sullivan at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre opens with Sarah Goodwin (the excellent Laura Linney) in a full leg cast with facial wounds, a war photographer who has been badly injured by a roadside bomb in Iraq, entering the Williamsburg loft she shares with James Dodd (the equally excellent Brian D’Arcy James), a war journalist. Particularly attentive to her, and admittedly feeling guilty because he left Iraq before the incident, he has retrieved her from hospital in Germany.

With the boosted energy and enthusiasm she attributes to her diet, Ms. Silverstone’s life is moving full speed ahead.

Speaking with a fly on her forehead, Alicia Silverstone gets frustrated with the photographer’s flashes at her book signing! The actress turned author was promoting “The Kind Diet: A Simple Guide to Feeling Great, Losing Weight, and Saving the Planet” at Book Soup in West Hollywood.

Alicia Silverstone, better known these days for her environmental activism and her fondness for veggies, has designed a collection of green make-up cases and brushes with EcoTools.

“We wanted to show everyone that you don’t have to sacrifice style to make environmentally-conscious choices,” Silverstone told People.com. “You can use earth friendly materials and still look fantastic!”

Alicia Silverstone will join Laura Linney on Broadway this season.

They will star in “Time Stands Still,” a play by Donald Margulies (MAHR’-guh-lees). Linney will play a photojournalist who was wounded while covering the Iraq war. Silverstone will portray the young girlfriend of the woman’s photo editor.

“Time Stands Still” opens Jan. 28, 2010, at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre. Previews begin Jan. 5.
