In her first regular broadcast series gig, “High School Musical” alumna Ashley Tisdale has signed on to co-star on the CW pilot “Hellcats” in the role of a cheerleader.
Executive produced by “Smallville” star Tom Welling, the project centers on Marti (Aly Michalka), a college girl from the wrong side of the tracks who, after losing her scholarship because of budget cutbacks and the chronic irresponsibility of her mother (Gail O’Grady), joins the Hellcats, the college’s competitive cheerleading team.
Actress-singer Tisdale will play Sierra, the peppy and fiercely intense captain of the Hellcats who, after an initial clash with Marti, realizes that she just might be the godsend the Hellcats need to win the championship.
Like Michalka, who starred on Disney Channel’s “Phil of the Future,” Tisdale has become a star on Disney Channel. In addition to her role as Sharpay Evans in the “HSM” franchise, she co-starred on the channel’s comedy “The Suite Life of Zack and Cody” and voiced a character on “Phineas and Ferb.”
On broadcast TV, she had a multiple-episode role on the CBS sitcom “Still Standing.”
Ashley Tisdale is reportedly set to star in a spin-off from High School Musical called Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventures.
The 24-year-old is set to reprise her role as Sharpay Evans in the new spin-off film for the Disney Channel, according to US reports.
A rep for the star said to JustJared.com that she will take on the lead role in the film as well as being an executive producer.
The movie is set to be released in 2011 and will start filming later this year.
The last High School Musical hit cinemas two years ago – and the fourth film is still subject to rumours.
Talking in 2008, Tisdale said: ‘We don’t really know anything about HSM 4, actually. It’s flattering to leave the door open for a character, so that’s really awesome.
‘I’m just kind of looking forward to other projects as well. It’s something that we’ve always loved to do… and [we're looking forward to] growing in our careers and looking ahead.’
The star’s own production company, Blondie Girl Productions, has signed a multi-year deal with a reality TV company called RealitivityReal.
Ashley will be stepping behind the camera for once to create, develop and produce her own TV shows.
She recently told MTV that she has been working on a reality TV show – we can’t wait to see what Ashley has made!
Disney’s High School Musical may have catapulted them to fame, but stars Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens have been busy shedding their High School Musical image, and Ashley Tisdale is no different. The 24-year-old is busy with her new movie, Aliens in the Attic (out in theatres July 31), and releasing her sophomore album, Guilty Pleasures (out July 28). Ashley has also recently signed on to guest star in the Boys Like Girls music video for Love Drunk (out September 8). She even has a new hot body and a gorgeous beau, music director Scott Spear to complete the transformation. Looks like Ashley’s going to have a great summer.
The Teen Choice Awards air on Fox tonight.
The event took place last night in Los Angeles.
